I just found this post - it's brilliant. To all my fellow book bloggers out there, and anyone else who's ever had to 'unpack' a text - we have competition! This is from parenting site, www.babble.com - and a post from a blog on the site where the writer had her six year old daughter sum up a number of classic books purely based on their cover designs.
Read and enjoy HERE
I hate to think how she's going to process the actual books one day when she's old enough to read them...
I saw that post you liked just today and I think it's very insightful in terms of the message that covers put across to readers.
ReplyDeleteThis made me want to try out the same thing to my 5-year-old niece.
I agree - some of her assumptions, based on the cover art, couldn't have been further from reality, even allowing for her age.
DeleteThe mind boggles, though, at the potential impact somewhere later down the track - Cuckoo's Nest, wasn't it, that she said was a children's book, a nice story about a little bird and its nest...OUCH!
Which reminds me, must retrieve my copy of that from Sixteen and re-read it as I've been meaning to do for ages.
